foprop - Making the living economy

Here we elaborate a conceptual frame of activist practice in commoning, built around altered forces of production (fop) and altered relations of production (rop). This is proposed as a pattern language of Making the living economy. It also furnishes a frame for schools and faculties of a 'college of conviviality'.

Forces of production A labour-process term that helps make sense of how practices are organised in society and in history, what they contribute and how they may be changed in activist practice.

Relations of production Altered relations of production are at the heart of activist practice, and of the material remaking of the fabric of forces of production. Forces of production are materially, practically organised by historically distinctive RoPs. They are substantially, historically transformed when their RoPs are altered. In each of three landscapes of practice, RoPs are particular to those particular kinds of materials and forces.

The foprop weave The foprop weave is a frame for a pattern language of activist life. foprop engages three **landscapes** of practice which stand in an intimate, inseparable relationship with one another. It recognises four **zones** of proximity and reach. The three landscapes and four zones constitute 'the weave'.

Weft - Three landscapes of material existence The three landscapes - material. cultural, aesthetic - are offered as three broad, interweaving framings of the location of an activist (or any person) in the material world, which is to say, a framing of conditions for living an actual human life. Here we offer a systems-map of each landscape.

Warp - Four zones of proximity and reach Here we describe four zones of proximity and reach, helpful in framing the situation of an activist and the scope of an activist or formation of activists.

Elsewhere, and closely related, we discuss . .

This is where I develop a pattern language for commoning, within the foprop framework.
